Northeast Nebraska Shooting Sports
Our goal is to promote shooting sports in Northeast Nebraska and encourage youth and adults to participate in competitive shooting events.
About Us:
The Elkhorn Valley Sportsman Club has been in existence since 1982. At that time the club's name was the Wingfoot Sportsman Club and the trap range was located behind the former Goodyear hose plant- now Veyance. Veyance has a company policy of no guns on the premises so five years ago the range was closed. The Elkhorn Valley Sportsman Club was reorganized in 2009 with plans to find a new location for the trap range. A lease for land three miles east of Norfolk on Norfolk Avenue was signed in 2009. Here is what has gone on since that time:
Winter 2009:
Tom Gansebom, Shannon Sorrick, and Mike Finkral met several times with Steve Ganskow about leasing land to build a trap range. After those meetings a 15 year lease was agreed upon.
Zoning:
Went to Stanton County Commissioners to get the tract of land re-zoned and approved for this usage.
Lease Agreement:
Jim Egley wrote a lease agreement and CPA Jerome Bahm applied for non-profit status.
Early Spring 2010:
Steve Ganskow moved and leveled piles of dirt at the 4/5 acre site.
All legal permits were finalized and ok’d and signed by July 2010.
Dirt Moving and seeding:
Dinkel Implement donated a tractor, Kenny Porter donated a 12 ft. box scraper, Mike Finkral donated labor and the Sportsman Club paid for the fuel for dirt moving and seeding of the grass.
Summer 2010:
After many hours of moving dirt, Kenny Porter donated time and equipment to laser the site for leveling. Site was found to need more dirt to be moved to the SW corner. Kenny Porter said he would donate a scraper and a dozer with a laser and 2 men to operate both for 8 hours. Kenny’s crew spent over a week (few hours at a time). They finished September 22, 2010.
Positioning trap houses:
Shannon Sorrick, Tom Gansebom, Mike Finkral, and Tim Carlisle met at the site to measure and position the trap houses. It was found if a skeet house is to be built the third trap house needed to be moved further east. This meant more dirt needed to be moved and was done so the next week.
October 2, 2010:
Matt Winkelbauer donated and applied 20 large truck loads of 2 year old manure on the 4.5 acre site. Mike Finkral worked this into the soil.
The club bought $450 worth of grass seed from Kaup Seed, using discount card provided by Bill Nielson.
October 3, 2010:
Regular meetings held at Dinkel Implement inviting interested parties to join the effort.
2021:
Moved to Madison location 55454 828 1/2 Rd. Madison, NE 68748
